National Scout Car Races 2016

National Scout Car Races 2016

Another trip to the races for 1st Ripley Scout Group’s Cubs, Scouts and Young Leaders. This year the National Scout Car Races were held just outside York at Tockwith and 1st Ripley took two teams of Cubs, two teams of Scouts and a team of Explorers/Young Leaders making 5 teams the highest number of people we have taken to the races before.   We travelled up in our new minibus on the Friday evening and got our tents set up on the campsite. By the time we had got all of the tents set up it was time for supper and bed to make sure that we were all ready for the races on Saturday. Saturday started with a cooked breakfast before the leaders started getting the cars ready and the paperwork organised. The weather was showery but that didn’t delay the race with the first race at half past nine. Then someone from our group was racing in almost every other race which kept the leaders busy getting people into the right place at the right time. Our Cubs, Scouts and Explorers were very consistent finishing around 3rd in most of the sprint races.   Rudi posted the second fastest time for a Cub during the sprint events and Roan posted he sixth fastest Explorer time which meant for the first time we got a driver into the championship races. After lunch we got stuck into the exciting Grand Prix races where in the team of four they had 15 minutes to post as many laps as possible changing driver every lap for cubs and every other lap for...
Keeping Up To Date During Walesby Cub Camp

Keeping Up To Date During Walesby Cub Camp

With camp just around the corner I’m sure everyone is packed and getting super excited! For the parents that don’t get to join in the fun and adventure on camp we are going to try and keep them up to date with what we are doing as best as we can. Depending on the phone signal and what time we have available we’ll be tweeting throughout the day from 1st Ripley’s twitter account @1stRipleyScouts In the evenings we’ll try and write a diary of what we have been doing during the day and get as many photos uploaded as we can. The photos will go into these blog posts as not everyone has access to 1st Ripley’s facebook page. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to tweet and post the blog posts it just depends on the signal strength on my phone! But please do keep checking back to see if we have been able to post anything. Feel free to comment on the posts but the leaders won’t be able to comment until we get back. The latest posts will appear at http://1stripleyscouts.org/category/falcon/walesby16/ See you all at...

Superhero Cubs at Spring Bank

The Cubs had a fantastic time at Drum Hill over the Spring Bank weekend at the Spring Bank Camp, where the theme this year was Superheroes and Villains. We camped with Cubs and Scouts from Erewash and Codnor. Throughout the course of the weekend the Cubs took part in a huge number of the activities on offer such as climbing, abseiling, air rifle shooting, caving, mountain biking, craft activities, discos, gunge a leader, archery and many, many more. We would like to say a huge thank you to the leaders from Erewash, Codnor and Ripley without who, the Cubs wouldn’t have been able to attend and have such a fantastic time. The weekend camp also saw the Cubs make use of the new tents recently purchased by the group after a generous donation from Gillian Gamble, a former leader with the group.             All of the photos from the camp are on our facebook...
Cubs Earn Highest Award and Cub/Scout Quiz

Cubs Earn Highest Award and Cub/Scout Quiz

Two Cubs, Dillon Ault and Mark Hawley have achieved the Chief Scout Silver Award, the highest award a Cub can gain in Scouting. They were presented with the award at the Annual Ripley and Heanor District Cub and Scout Quiz held at the Headquarters of 1st Ripley Scout Group on Tuesday 3rd March 2015. To achieve the award both Cubs have had to work hard to get the Creative, Community, Fitness, Global, Outdoor and Promise Challenge badges which are part of the requirements for the Silver Award. Meanwhile in the quiz the our Cub/Scout teams (two cubs and two scouts per team) did very well against the Cubs and Scouts from Swanwick, Sitwell, Codnor, and Loscoe, with one team finishing in 3rd place and the other in 5th place. Congratulations to Mark and Dillon on their award and both Cub/Scout teams for their great performance during the...
