Over 250 badges were presented to over 50 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts at 1st Ripley’s 2022 Presentation evening celebrating the achievements of our young people over the course of the past few months.
We were joined the Mayor of Ripley, Councillor Nigel Weaving and his wife Phyllis along with over 100 parents, carers, and family members to help celebrate our young people. It was the first event that the Group had run for many years and it was fantastic to see such a good turnout on one of the hottest days of the year.
The Group laid on a BBQ of burgers and hot dogs while Samantha and Wesley, 2 Scouts who have been selected to represent Ripley and Heanor at the next World Scout Jamboree in South Korea next year were busy fundraising selling teas, coffees, cakes and ice creams. They made fantastic a £195 taking them a step closer to their target.
Presented during the evening were 6 Top Awards. 3 Chief Scout Bronze Awards for James, Thomas and Hannah. The Bronze Award is the highest award that a Beaver Scout can earn and involves completing 6 challenge awards and six activity badges as well as a night camping. Wesley and Latonia were awarded with the Chief Scout Gold Award, the highest award for a Scout involving 9 challenge badges, 6 activity badges and quite a few nights away. Finally, Mark was presented with his young leader belt. The young leader belt is one of the top awards for the Explorer Scout section and signifies the completion of the Young Leader training scheme which involved 11 training modules from how to deliver inclusive scouting to first aid, and how to plan a Scout programme. It also includes completing four missions starting off with running some games and missions to planning an entire term of the Scouts programme. A huge congratulations to the 6 young people who got these awards.
Not to be missed out we also invested Zoey and Tristram, two of new volunteers. Zoey who is supporting the Beaver section and Tristram who is opening a new Explorer unit in September for 14-18 year olds. The first Explorer unit Ripley has had. We also presented Wendy with her five years service award to celebrate all of her hard work over the past few years.
Scouting in Ripley is continuing to grow, we have over 75 members more than before the pandemic and we have over 15 people on our waiting list wanting to experience the fun and adventure that Scouting has to offer. We are a charity, run entirely by an amazing group of volunteers. We are currently looking to open a new Cub pack to address our waiting list so that we can continue to prepare better futures by teaching young people Skills for Life but we need help to do that. If you could be interested, and it doesn’t have to be as a “leader” please do get in touch. We have some fantastic opportunities that can help you develop your CV, make new friends, or learn new skills. For example, we’re looking for people to join our team of trustees to help with charity governance, we’re looking for people to help with social media and web development, people to help with the garden, look after equipment and also to work with the young people.
